Maine Sea Duck Hunting: What To Bring

Thornehead Guide & Travel, Inc. provides all equipment except your personal waterfowling gear.  You will need your own shot gun. We recommend 12 gauge with two boxes per day of #4 or larger non-toxic shot in 3” or 3-1/2” chamber.  We strongly recommend using premium shot like Hevi-Shot or Faststeel.  Traditional waterfowl gear and insulated waders or hip boots are a necessity.  A Federal Duck Stamp, a Maine Waterfowl License and a non-resident 3-day Small Game License is required.  All can be purchased at nearby L.L. Bean, open 24 hours a day.  You will need a hunting license (previous or current) from your state or a Hunter Safety Certificate to purchase your Maine License.  Licenses can also be purchased on-line through The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife website.  Federal stamps can also be purchased at any US Post Office.

Plugs in shotguns (3 shots) are mandatory.
Non-toxic shot is required by law.
A soft gun case for boat travel is provided to protect your shotgun.
